UCC Alumni are invited to attend a special reception and film screening

The Global community of UCC Alumni are invited to join the Alumni Association for an exclusive screening of The Genius of George Boole, a documentary, narrated by Oscar winner, Jeremy Irons. The film examines the legacy of UCC’s first Professor of Mathematics, George Boole - creator of Boolean algebra and forefather of the digital age.

In 2015, University College Cork celebrates the bicentenary of George Boole, 1815-64. The huge impact of George Boole’s work on technology today is explored in this stunning new film commissioned by University College Cork. Narrated by Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons and produced by multi award-winning Oxford Film and Television, The Genius of George Boole assembles industry leaders and academics from across the globe to explore the life and importance of one of the world’s greatest unsung heroes.

MEP Seán Kelly will host the Belgian premiere of the new documentary, "The Genius of George Boole", at the European Parliament. This will be followed by a panel discussion situating George Boole's achievements in both a historical and contemporary context.

Our distinguished panel consists of:

  • President of UCC, Dr Michael Murphy
  • Professor Barry O’Sullivan, Director of the Insight Centre for Data Analytics at UCC
  • Dr Kieran Drain, CEO of the Tyndall National Institute at UCC

The evening will conclude with light refreshments served in the European Parliament. Full instructions on how to register for global alumni events are available here.
