A recent visit to India by Professor Patrick Fitzpatrick, Chair India Strategy Group and Dr Christopher Shepard, Vice-Chair India Strategy Group provided the opportunity for the Cork delegation to introduce the George Boole 200 celebrations to India. Pictured above are Professor Patrick Fitzpatrick and Dr Christopher Shepard, along with Ms Minakshi Batra, Director UCC-India.

While in India the UCC delegation visited several partner universities (Delhi University, IIT Madras, SRM University) and companies including Tech Mahindra. They also met with Ireland’s honorary consuls Mr Rajiv Mecheri (ChennAI) and Mr Cyrus Guzder (Mumbai) and attended a reception hosted by HE Ambassador Féilim McLaughlin on the occasion of the Enterprise Ireland trade mission led by Minister Damien English TD, Minister for Skills, Research and Innovation.

Minister English made the formal announcement of the appointment of Ms Batra to her new position with UCC, which follows a five-year term as Country Director-India for the IDA.  Dr Shepard and Professor Fitzpatrick took the opportunity to speak about George Boole 200 and to present copies of Des MacHale’s biography The Life and Work of George Boole: A prelude to the digital age to Minister English and Ambassador McLaughlin. Also in photographs is Mr Giles O’Neill, newly appointed Director of Education in Ireland.
