UCC Visitors’ Centre acts as a central point of information for the many visitors to the university. The Centre is located along the Stone Corridor in the North Wing and is the cultural and historical heart of campus.

UCC Visitors’ Centre organizes many impressive events and historical tours of the college, as well as tours for primary schools, secondary schools, and visiting dignitaries.  It also stocks a huge range of official UCC merchandise.

The story of George Boole, a fascinating and complex man, is alive and well here in UCC.  Boole is central to our public tour which runs from Monday to Friday at 3pm and 12 Noon on Saturdays (Public Holidays excluded) from February to December (inclusive).  The tour charts the history of the University’s origins in 1845 to the modern living University it is today.  Through its impactful teaching and research, University College Cork continues to be recognised as a world-class university.

The unique tapestry of the university is woven from its cosmopolitan character, diverse student population which includes a large proportion of international students, successful outreach and access programmes, the highest of academic standards in undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, and its outstanding record of internationally recognised research, not to mention the most up-to-date sports facilities and a broad range of societies and social activities.  Together, these create the fabric of an exceptional university experience and one which is richly embellished with Boole’s influence and lasting legacy.

UCC’s Public Tour includes a visit to the Boole Window in the Aula Maxima and the Bust of George Boole - commissioned as part of the bicentenary celebrations in 2015.  You will learn on the tour how Boole’s presence has led to the university’s newest superstition!

There are other interesting facts and stories expertly told along the way which encompasses:  UCC’s Ogham Stone Collection, Main Quadrangle, the University’s Gardens and the beautifully refurbished Crawford Observatory.
